Acer Aspire One – How to flash bios revisited (Linux)
Hey guys,
It’s no doubt my post about how to flash an Aspire One’s bios was my most popular yet, so I thought I might revisit the topic now that there are many different revisions of the One out, and now that my main OS is Linux
Linux (Debian Based)
I thought I’d start off by saying, I haven’t been following the updates, as I haven’t needed one since the last post, so they may work different than how they used to, although I highly doubt it.
http://global-download.acer.com/GDHome.aspx?SC=PA_7&LC=en# - Acer has a new drivers download page, accommodating for the new versions of the netbook.
Requirements: Your Aspire One, a Power point and AC adapter, a compatible flash drive with about 4MB free
Instructions:
- Install Unetbootin – Open a root terminal and type: (Don’t worry if it says it’s already installed, thats good
)
apt-get install unetbootin
- Plug your flash drive in (and if possible remove all other usb storage devices) and make sure you have your firmware zip handy
- At your root prompt run
unetbootin
- Select FreeDOS in the distribution field.
- Leave everything else
- Select your flash drive in the “Drive:” field, if you followed Step 2, there should be only one selection available. (this is why I said to unplug your other stuff before, if you have more than one flash drive plugged in, it shows more than one selection)
- Click OK, and wait.
- Mount your flash drive by selecting it from the (generally) places menu.
- Extract firmware to flash drive which you can get here.
- Follow the rest of the instructions here.
Good luck fellow Linux geeks
Don’t forget to email me or leave a comment if you have any problems and I’ll see what I can do

Linux flash, step 10 takes me to your other post. Where in the other post does step ten come in? The other post talks about drive “C” which is a windows drive, but as you know you were giving a Linux flash instruction, so the continuation to the other post lacks the proper insertion point and some minor changes to the terminology.
Maybe give a one page Linus “How to” withour involving the windows stuff?
